Trading Compliance Lead
The Trading & Transition (T&T) business unit plays a critical role in how Energy Australia manages market exposure, supports the transition to cleaner energy, and ensures reliable and sustainable operations. T&T oversees energy trading, market risk management, and the processes that help us navigate Australia’s rapidly evolving energy landscape.
About the Role:
As the Trading Compliance Lead, you will partner closely with the Trading & Transition (T&T) business unit to uplift compliance practices, strengthen controls, and help prevent and detect potential breaches of regulatory obligations.
This 12‑month maximum term role is embedded in the business and offers the opportunity to influence meaningful change across a high‑impact part of our organisation. This will include:
- Manage Regulatory Obligations – Support Obligation Owners in understanding, maintaining, and complying with regulatory obligations.
- Identify & Assess Compliance Risks – Work with the business to evaluate risks across processes, systems, and activities.
- Document & Improve Processes – Partner with stakeholders to map end‑to‑end processes, identify controls, and drive continuous improvement.
- Strengthen Controls – Assess control design and effectiveness, identify gaps, and coordinate remediation or enhancement actions.
- Monitor, Report & Build Awareness – Track compliance performance, support incident management, and coordinate training to reinforce a strong compliance culture.
About You:
This role will suit an experienced compliance or risk professional with demonstrated capability in applying regulatory frameworks within a complex operating environment. Experience in the Australian energy industry is highly regarded, but candidates from other regulated industries are also encouraged to apply.
You will bring:
- A degree in Law, Commerce, Technology or related fields
- A strong ability to understand and interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into practical guidance for the business.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills that help you explain issues clearly and influence a wide range of stakeholders.
- Sharp critical‑thinking skills and strong attention to detail, with the ability to identify risks, gaps and issues in processes and controls.
- Meaningful experience working in compliance within the energy sector or another highly regulated industry, demonstrating confidence dealing with complex rules and obligations
