Mt Piper Power Station 

Mt Piper Power Station is located near Lithgow in NSW and plays an important role in supplying electricity to all Australia. It runs on black coal from local mines and is expected to keep operating for many years to come. The station was commissioned in the 90’s and has been upgraded over time with modern technology to improve efficiency and performance, supporting the growing use of renewable energy. 

 

About the Apprenticeship Program 

Our generation sites play a vital role in keeping Australia’s lights on. As an apprentice, you’ll learn and support our experienced mechanical maintenance teams while building the skills to help shape the future of energy. 

  • Four-year apprenticeship program with practical and classroom learning at TAFE 

  • Obtain a Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (or) 

  • Obtain a Certificate III in Electrotechnology 

  • Positions start December 2026 on a 4-year fixed term contract until December 2030 

 

What we are looking for 

  • Completion of Year 10, or above in 2026 or a Certificate II in Engineering or related field (or) 

  • Completion of Year 10, or above in 2026 or a Certificate II in Electrical or related field  

  • A technical aptitude which will be assessed during the recruitment process 

  • A commitment to undertake and complete formal training at TAFE 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 

  • Strong safety awareness 

  • A current and valid Probationary or Full NSW Driver’s Licence (or ability to obtain) 

  • Ability and willingness to obtain a Construction Industry Induction Card (White Card) 

  • To support safe travel and effective fatigue management, applicants are required to reside within 45 minutes or 80km of Mt Piper Power Station
