About this Role
The Financial Accounting Lead is primarily responsible for technical accounting support, financial accounting, preparation of statutory reporting obligations, updating of accounting policies and maintaining an accurate balance sheet and P&L for the company.
- Provide commercially focused, technical accounting advice on various projects being considered as part of the energy transition.
- Support the wider Financial Control team in interpreting the accounting treatment of the more complex areas of the business in ensuring the general ledger is accurately produced.
- Manage the maintenance of accounting policies, as required, to provide clear guidance on accounting treatment and provide practical guidance for implementation.
- Review new and emerging accounting standards and advise on the implications for the business on reporting obligations.
- Conduct technical accounting training across the broader finance function on a periodic basis.
- Assist in preparation of accounting judgement papers and accounting memos for the Audit and Risk
- Prepare the annual and half year financial statements for the EnergyAustralia Group and its relevant subsidiaries.
- Facilitate collection of information from business units to complete the statutory accounts.
- Complete CLP (shareholder) schedules required as part of the half-year close processes and interact with CLP to deliver accurate and timely information for CLP group’s external disclosure
How can you be part of the Clean Energy Transition
- Tertiary qualifications in accounting, finance, economics or another relevant quantitative degree (minimum requirement)
- Post graduate qualifications in accounting and/or finance holding current CA/CPA qualifications
- Strong technical accounting advisory experience gained from MNCs or Big 4, showcasing in-depth knowledge of accounting standards. Particularly adept in areas such as derivative accounting, consolidation, joint venture accounting with the ability to offer strategic accounting insights and simplify complex financial information for diverse audience.
- Collaborative team player adept at communicating confidently and effectively, capable of thriving with minimal supervision.
- Exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, fostering and maintaining strong working relationships with stakeholders.
- Self-driven and motivated individual with strong work ethic, analytical mindset, problem solving abilities. Committed to delivering excellent outcomes, comfortable with autonomy and responsibility.
- Possess a high level of business acumen, adept at navigating ambiguous and unstructured problems and situations effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, perform under pressure, effectively managing multiple projects and competing priorities in a time sensitive environment. Detail oriented and organised.
- Proven track record in identifying and implementing process improvements, including leveraging automation opportunities
- Proficient user of financial systems, experience with SAP S4 Hana and Accuri would be beneficial
- Require strong experience in a professional firm (consulting, chartered accounting, finance etc) or commerce
- Understanding of the merchant energy industry preferred
